Where I Recycle My Old Batteries in Reigate

About Smokeless Heat Logs

As someone who works with all kinds of electrical equipment daily and provides an emergency electrician service in Reigate, I often come across old or used batteries—especially during call-outs to replace smoke alarms or emergency lighting. Over the years, I’ve made a habit of disposing of them responsibly, and I thought it might help to share what I do and where I take mine.

Why I Don’t Just Bin Batteries

It’s tempting to chuck old batteries in the bin, especially after a long day on the tools. But batteries are full of harmful materials like lead and mercury, and tossing them in with your general waste can cause serious environmental damage. That’s why I always make the effort to recycle mine properly—and I encourage my customers to do the same.

My Go-To Spot: Earlswood Community Recycling Centre

The main place I take my old batteries is Earlswood Community Recycling Centre on Horley Road, Redhill (RH1 6PN). It’s just a short drive from Reigate, and they accept both household batteries and larger ones like those used in alarms or backup systems. I usually make a trip once a month to drop off anything I’ve collected from jobs.

Supermarket Drop-Offs – Handy When I’m Out and About

Sometimes I’ll use the battery bins at local supermarkets when I’ve only got a couple to get rid of. Places like Morrisons and Sainsbury’s in Reigate usually have a small collection point near the entrance. If I’ve just finished a job nearby, I’ll swing by and drop them in.

What About Car Batteries?

Car batteries—or any larger lead-acid batteries—need special handling. I’ve taken these to the Earlswood centre as well, but I’ve also found that some car parts shops and garages will accept them when you’re swapping them out.

Doing Your Bit

It doesn’t take much to recycle batteries the right way, and if you’re like me—working in or around electronics—it’s worth knowing where to take them. If you’re clearing out old tech or need help with electrical safety at home or in your business, that’s where I come in.
